Liverpool star wades into Jamie Carragher row with inflammatory Arsenal comment
Liverpool figures continue to accuse Arsenal of over-celebrating their Premier League win over the Reds last Sunday.
Curtis Jones has ignited a fresh celebration row by accusing Arsenal of copying Liverpool’s passionate celebrations. The Gunners divided opinion by exuberantly celebrating their 3-1 win over the Merseysiders last weekend, despite sitting third in the Premier League table.
Captain Martin Odegaard enraged Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher by celebrating with club photographer Stuart MacFarlane. Odegaard took the camera and began taking pictures of MacFarlane.
Carragher raged as the scene played out: “Get down the tunnel, I’m being serious. You’ve won a game, you’ve got three points - get down the tunnel.”
Liverpool midfielder Jones has now reignited the feud between the clubs by suggesting that Arsenal copy their celebrations. Manager Jurgen Klopp celebrates each home success by performing a fist-pump in front of the Kop.
Jones believes Arsenal have started celebrating in the same way. He aimed a dig at Liverpool’s Premier League title rivals over the way they mark their victories.
Speaking to the BBC, the 23-year-old said: “I’ve just got to shut it all down. In a respectful way, the celebrations and stuff like that, it’s all nice. But for many years, we’ve always been a team that our fans are spoken about, and the gaffer himself - you know the way he fist-pumps the fans… that’s kind of our thing.
“So if they want to be stealing our stuff then it shows we’re on the right path. We’ve got these copying us.”
Arsenal midfielder Odegaard hit back at claims that he and his team-mates over-celebrate.

Asked if Arsenal went too far in their celebration after beating Liverpool, the Norwegian told Sky Sports: “No, I think everyone who loves football and understands football, they know how much it means to win this game.
“And if you’re not allowed to celebrate when you win, when are you allowed to celebrate? We’re happy and we’ll stay humble. After being at the top for so long last season, we always prefer to be at the top, of course.
“But we’re still in a good position, we showed today the quality we have in the team, in a big game, a lot to play for. It would have been a tough one for us to lose today - that would have left us eight points behind, but we really showed up and it was a great performance overall.”
