The Premier League’s summer transfer window closed on Saturday night, but there are still a plethora of players hoping to secure a move. Numerous stars were released over the past few months and are eagerly awaiting approaches, and the free agent market could present interesting opportunities for the majority of top clubs around Europe. Express Sport takes a look at eight stars that could be snapped up for free…
Following his release from Manchester United, De Gea has been linked with numerous clubs – including lucrative offers in Saudi Arabia. However, the Spaniard has a preference to remain in Europe and he could be a top-quality acquisition for clubs juggling domestic football with European competitions
Eden Hazard
Rumours are circulating that Hazard is considering hanging up his boots, though the Belgium international could be persuaded to continue playing at the top level if a bid arrives. The ex-Real Madrid star flourished in the Premier League but his lack of fitness meant that he struggled in Spain, but his raw ability should not be overlooked – and his experience could be key for a club with youngsters.
Jesse Lingard
Currently training with West Ham in the hope of earning a contract with the club, Lingard will be eager to return to the Premier League in the form that made him a sought-after star in years gone by. His stint at Nottingham Forest last season fell well short of expectations and if he is to return to the England set-up again, his next club needs to be the right one.

Alfredo Morelos
There are several sides likely to be in a relegation battle this season, and the chance to snap up Morelos on a free transfer could prove very attractive. The striker scored 124 goals in 269 appearances for Rangers during six years at the club and has a knack for popping up with key goals at vital moments. It would be a surprise if the likes of Everton and Fulham weren’t at least considering the Colombia international.
Sergio Ramos
Although he looks destined to make the move to Turkey or Saudi Arabia, Ramos is still available as a free agent and would add quality and experience to any dressing room. Clubs battling injury problems in defence, such as United, could consider the Spaniard on a short-term deal.

After making 66 appearances for the club, Gomez mutually terminated his contract with Sevilla on deadline day. The 35-year-old is a versatile leader and will have aspirations of winding down his career at a club that still has hopes of playing in Europe.
Kasper Schmeichel
Another star to terminate their contract late in the window was Schmeichel, after just a season with Nice. The Denmark international is still capable of playing at the very top level and would be the ideal acquisition for a club facing injury woes between the sticks, and his desire to head into management once he hangs up his gloves may prove attractive to clubs short of leaders behind the scenes.
