Man Utd face £8m Mason Greenwood payment after striker denied deadline day transfer
Manchester United are facing the prospect of paying a huge bill to Mason Greenwood on transfer deadline day.
Erik ten Hag previews Arsenal v Man Utd clash
Manchester United are facing the prospect of having to pay Mason Greenwood as much as £8million after the 21-year-old saw his potential transfer to Lazio collapse on deadline day. The Red Devils have been attempting to move the forward on before Friday's 11.00pm cut-off, but so far have struggled to find a suitor.
Serie A side Lazio had been willing to sign Greenwood, but Di Marzio has claimed that their attempts were left too late as the Italian market closed at 7.00pm and there was not enough time to complete the deal.
Should United fail to find a new suitor before Saturday, they may be forced to terminate Greenwood's contract to the tune of £8million in what would be a major financial blow, especially as the club have carefully been considering Financial Fair Play regulations while conducting their summer business.
Lazio had been trying until the final moments to get a deal for Greenwood over the line, as the one-cap England man was open to leaving his homeland for Italy, but he is now forced to look for another club instead.

Only a few markets remain open past the Premier League's, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but the latter has already played down the suggestion that Greenwood could join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema in the Middle East as the likelihood that United will have to terminate the player's contract have increased.
In a statement earlier this month confirming that Greenwood would not be reintegrated into Erik ten Hag's squad, United claimed that they would work with the player to help him find a new club, as he continues to train and keep fit in the hopes of another contract offer.

Lazio had previously been told that United were willing to sell him without a transfer fee, as the Red Devils were eager to get him off their books, though Greenwood was facing the prospect of a big wage cut to around £12,500-a-week.
But despite Greenwood giving the green light, the transfer could be completed in time and instead he will seek out options such as Turkish clubs or La Liga outfit Getafe, who have shown interest this summer.
The Spanish window closes at 11.00pm on Friday, while the Turkish window remains open until September 15, as Besiktas continue to be linked with the striker.
