Fabio Capello hoping for improvement on Italy
ENGLAND boss Fabio Capello will be hoping for a better post-World Cup reception on his return to England than the one he received in his native Italy in 1974.
Italy had reached the final of the 1970 tournament in Mexico but were sent home early four years later after losing their final group match to Poland, despite Capello’s late goal.
Italian fans were incensed and pelted the side with rotten fruit on their return to Rome, but for Capello the lesson of 1974 remained long after the fruit had been scraped off the runway Tarmac.
And he will hope the iron fist approach he adopted makes for bouquets instead this time around.
