Arsenal transfer news: Jurrien Timber is a top defensive target for the Gunners (Image: GETTY)
Arsenal have several players they could attempt to use as part of a deal to sign Jurrien Timber. The Gunners have identified the Dutchman as their top defensive target this summer.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to sign a right-back and centre-back in this window. Timber can fulfil both of those demands and his versatility has attracted the north Londoners' interest.
The Athletic claims that Ajax have rejected a bid of £30million from Arsenal for Timber. The Eredivisie club would shake hands at £50m.
However, Arsenal could tempt Ajax by using a player in part exchange for Timber. Express Sport looks at five candidates who could fit the bill.
Trusty joined Arsenal from Colorado Rapids in January 2022. He has been out on loan ever since, first back in MLS before a season at Birmingham.
He impressed at St Andrew's, being named their Player of the Season. Trusty is now a full USA international and, at 24, could be an attractive option as a direct replacement for Timber in defence.
Nuno Tavares
Tavares will be back at Arsenal this summer after a year on loan at Marseille. He impressed at times in France, spending the majority of his time at wing-back.
The 23-year-old struggled in his first campaign in English football so may not have a future at the Emirates. Ajax may feel they can help him reach his undoubted potential.

Lokonga is yet to live up to the hype of being named 'the next Yaya Toure'. Vincent Kompany made that claim several years ago when he was manager of Anderlecht.
A loan at Crystal Palace didn't go to plan following the sacking of Patrick Vieira. A fresh start could be what the Belgian needs.
Marquinhos
Another young player whose opportunities will likely be few and far between at Arsenal. Marquinhos spent the second half of last season on loan at Norwich but made just eight starts.
Ajax are known for getting the best out of young players. The 20-year-old could thrive if given the opportunity.
Arsenal’s new kit for 2023/2024 is a stylish twist on a classic as it reinvents that mid-1990s vibe. A truly modern-looking shirt with a homage to the past, the Nike kit also includes a nod to the club’s iconic Invincible’s side in the finer details while catching the eye with the lightning bolt motif
Nicolas Pepe
Arsenal are trying to offload club-record signing Pepe this summer. He failed to impress Nice enough last season for them to want to sign him permanently.
His wages may be an issue for Ajax as he currently earns £140,000 a week at Arsenal. The Ivory Coast star may have to lower his demands in order to secure a move elsewhere.
