Jones has committed himself to the club after a series of talks with the owners. But he could be without Adam Matthews and Joe Ledley. Aston Villa are considering making a £2 million bid for right-back Matthews. They want him as a replacement for Luke Young, who is set to leave this summer.
And Richard Dunne hopes he will be joined at Villa Park by former Manchester City team-mate Stephen Ireland, who looks set to leave Eastlands. Dunne said: “I think Stephen would say himself that he wants to get more games and play more regularly.
“If that’s not at Manchester City, he would be more than welcome at Villa.”
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is hoping to land Ledley, with Everton, West Brom, Fulham and Blackburn all interested in the Wales international.
