Insiders believe the cash-strapped club cannot afford the current managerial team led by Jimmy Calderwood.
And they suggest that Durrant – a former temporary Rangers gaffer – is favourite to replace him. Durrant, 43, is out of contract at Ibrox, where he has been responsible for first-team training with Kenny McDowall.
Rangers’ cash crisis is such that their former star player may be encouraged to seek a living elsewhere.
Durrant spent a decade as a Rangers player and was a member of the nine-in-a-row side.
In 1998, his relationship with Kilmarnock began, first as a player for four seasons and then as the youth team coach.
A source said: “Kilmarnock look set to offer Ian his first full-time manager’s post. Ian won’t cost as much as Jimmy.”
