JOSE MOURINHO dropped a massive hint last night that he will be Real Madrid’s coach next season – and also revealed that he wept at Stamford Bridge after his triumph there with Inter Milan.
Jose Mourinho wants second Champions League title before switching to Madrid
Mourinho described the occasion of tonight’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich here as “the El Dorado of football”. But his pride at leading Inter to their first appearance at this stage of the European Cup since 1972 did not prevent him heavily hinting that he could be in a new job before the end of next week.
“After the match there will be a new life for everyone,” said former Chelsea boss Mourinho. “Tonight, when this match finishes, I cannot say whether it will be my last with Inter. But maybe within three or four days or a week a decision will be taken.”
Mourinho’s
comments were interpreted here as the most powerful indication yet that
he is hoping to fulfil his dream of becoming the first coach to win
league championships in England, Italy and Spain.
Real
coach Manuel Pellegrini is clinging on to his position, but the axe
will fall after they lost the Spanish title to Barcelona again –
despite spending £320 million last summer and landing Cristiano Ronaldo
and Kaka – and were knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16
stage.
Mourinho spoke of the emotion he felt upon his return to London in March when Inter knocked out Chelsea in the last 16.
He
said: “That game was crucial for Inter. At Chelsea I was in a difficult
emotional situation. I cried because during the 90 minutes I did not
think the players and my friends were still my friends.
“After
the game I realised that my friends were out of the Champions League.
That is the life of football. It’s why some players don’t celebrate
goals against their old teams.”
