Argentina team parade in Qatar after World Cup win
Being the football obsessor he is, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will have religiously watched the 2022 World Cup like the rest of the planet. And the Dutchman may have added some names to his transfer shortlists after eye-catching performances in Qatar.
Ten Hag started his Old Trafford rebuild with a spending spree north of £200million in the summer, but more morphing of his squad is needed before United can compete with Europe's currently-established leading clubs. Though January is expected to be quiet on the transfer front, with funds limited, the Red Devils may eye some of the World Cup's standout players at the end of the season.
Express Sport identifies four World Cup stars United could make a move to sign within the next year.
Yann Sommer
Yann Sommer didn't particularly have an impressive World Cup, barring a match-winning performance against Cameroon. However, during his involvement in Qatar, reports emerged that he was among Ten Hag's primary candidates to replace David de Gea in the summer.
United aren't expected to trigger the one-year extension in De Gea's contract, leaving the club without a clear first-choice goalkeeper next season. The experienced Swiss stopper will be available to negotiate a free transfer with any Premier League suitors from January.

Josip Juranovic
United are also on the hunt for a new right-back to provide Diogo Dalot with competition, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka heading for the exit door. Dalot was one of the top-performing right-backs at the World Cup, and Croatia's Josip Juranovic was another.
The 27-year-old star is in line for a high-profile transfer as early as January; Celtic have already signed his replacement. And he could head to Old Trafford if United reignite past interest in his signature.

Sofyan Amrabat
Sofyan Amrabat will be a popular figure in many teams of the tournament after his sublime role in Morocco's incredible run to the semi-finals. The 26-year-old caught the eye as the Atlas Lions' defensive midfielder, helping them beat Belgium, Spain and Portugal en route to the final four.
With Fred potentially leaving United on a free transfer in the summer, Ten Hag will want to re-enter the midfield market. And Amrabat will have a new list of attractive suitors after his exploits in Qatar.

United admired Goncalo Ramos before the World Cup, but his stunning debut hat-trick after replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up against Switzerland will have only intensified interest. After Ronaldo's exit, the Red Devils need a new striker, and Ramos may be among Ten Hag's top targets.
Benfica signed him as Darwin Nunez's replacement and won't let him leave on the cheap, casting doubt over a January switch. But he could be one of United's marquee summer arrivals as Ten Hag pursues a long-term goalscorer.
