Piers Morgan has been mocked after Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal were dumped out of the World Cup by Morocco. The television presenter has been a staunch defender of the axed former Manchester United star but fell silent following Portugal’s exit.
It was an interview with Morgan that prompted Ronaldo’s blockbuster departure from the Red Devils in November. The 57-year-old has since defended the football icon while he continues to attract negative headlines.
But there was radio silence from Morgan about Ronaldo’s poor performance in Portugal’s defeat by Morocco. Fans inundated his message about Morocco and mocked his relationship with the forward.

@CalderDarryn asked: “Portugal out Ronaldo in tears, beautiful scenes has anyone checked on Piers Morgan.”
Alongside three crying-laughing emojis, @lats96 joked: “You know Piers has left Ronaldo 3 miss calls already.”
“Expect to see Ronaldo run out on the pitch during the France v. England match screaming, ‘Piers, we would have won if I started!’” mocked @JaMeS5i.
@Zahirio said: “Yo @piersmorgan ! When's the Portugal World Cup exclusive of Ronaldo coming out?”
Ignoring Ronaldo’s exit, Morgan chose to talk about Morocco, who became the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals. “Wow. Morocco win. Heartbreak for Portugal but what a moment for Africa and the Arab world. And so well deserved - they were fantastic tonight.”

Anyone noticed how Piers didn’t mention Ronaldo in this tweet? If the team had won, he would have made it about Ronaldo. When Saudi beat Argentina, he made it about Messi.

“My thoughts are with you Piers at this difficult time but make sure you have your phone on you at all times cos he might want another interview,” @Ryan_Jackson15 said.
Ronaldo was seen storming off in tears after Portugal were defeated. It is likely the 37-year-old’s final World Cup - with him failing to win the competition.
The prolific striker has been linked with a whopping £160m per-year contract with Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr. However, he slammed those reports as ‘lies’ and is reportedly holding out for a European team to offer him a deal. A fairytale return to Sporting Lisbon has been mooted.
