Tottenham 'failed with double deadline day swoop' as Spurs already line up summer transfer
TOTTENHAM were at the heart of the transfer deadline day drama...
Transfer window: The top deals
Tottenham reportedly failed with dramatic deadline day moves for Yannick Carrasco and Middlesbrough's Djed Spence, according to reports. Technical director Fabio Paratici was working around the clock in the final stages of the window to try and pull off some additional new faces for Antonio Conte, who will now welcome Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur to his squad.
The former Juventus duo have both signed on the dotted line in north London but there were plenty of departures at Spurs to accommodate both players.
Dele Alli joined Everton on a permanent deal while Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon), Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal) and Bryan Gil (Valencia) all departed on loan.
Yet still, Tottenham were trying to pull off a third late signing to join their new recruits to paper over the frustration of failing to land Luis Diaz and Adama Traore.
According to The Evening Standard, Tottenham explored deadline day deals for both Carrasco and Spence, respectively, failing in their attempts to strike an agreement.

Atletico Madrid were not interested in losing Carrasco, who is still contracted until 2024 at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Furthermore, Nottingham Forest loanee Spence was reportedly the subject of two rejected bids from Spurs last week.
Spence, who put his name in the shop window in the FA Cup upset over Arsenal in early January, was being targeted to play at right-wing-back.
The same report now claims Spurs will line up a summer move for Brighton's Tariq Lamptey.

Although he has been absent with a long-term hamstring injury, the former Chelsea academy ace continues to catch the eye with Brighton, who he joined in January 2020.
The Seagulls are not entertaining a sale though and would demand close to £50m.
Spurs were also linked with some bizarre names in the final hours of the window.
Alvaro Morata was one that cropped up following Paratici's extensive talks with former club Juventus for Kulusevski and Bentancur.
The Spaniard striker eventually stayed put in Turin though, after also being linked with Arsenal.
Ousmane Dembele was another name being thrown about with Barcelona keen to sell due to his expiring contract this summer.
However, Tottenham were never really interested in signing either player and were instead focusing on other targets.
Conte will now strive to secure a top-four finish to bolster the club's transfer budget this summer when bigger changes to the squad will be made.
