Manchester United have a theory over Jesse Lingard’s potential Newcastle transfer that justifies their huge financial demands. The Magpies had hoped to get a bargain deal as the midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season but the Red Devils are holding out for a big fee.

That, though, did not materialise. Lingard has remained at United this season and has found game time under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick hard to come by.
Lingard is now expected to leave the 20-times English champions either this month or, certainly, when his contract expires in June.
Newcastle are understood to be one of the clubs interested. The Tyneside outfit, backed by the riches of their new Saudi owners, are desperate to add depth to a squad that needs vast improvement.
Eddie Howe’s side earned only their second Premier League win of the season last weekend and are 18th in the top-flight.

They are reportedly hoping to strike a bargain with United for Lingard but are finding negotiations challenging.
That is because United have a theory over Lingard’s value to the club. according to the Independent, the Old Trafford hierarchy feel that Lingard’s performances could save them from relegation to the Championship.
He scored nine goals in 16 appearances for West Ham and such form for Newcastle under Howe could be the difference between going down and staying up.
Naturally, that adds extra value to the deal. Dropping into the second tier could cost Newcastle around £100million, which is why United are holding out on their demands.
