If Everton do drift into the bottom three, club chiefs will surely have a difficult decision to make.
Against Liverpool, Everton looked meek as Jordan Henderson steered in the opener after nine minutes before Mohamed Salah raced clear and curled in a second 10 minutes later.
Demarai Gray gave the hosts hope as he pulled a goal back before the break but Salah slotted home a third after the interval, before Diogo Jota wrapped-up the victory with a thumping finish late on.
Such was the demise of Everton against their Merseyside rivals, that a number of fans apparently left the stadium after just 20 minutes of the match.

And boos rang out around the stadium when the full-time whistle blew as Everton fans turned against their team.
Benitez will be looking to inspire his side to an improved performance when they host Arsenal on Monday night.
The Spaniard then takes his team to Crystal Palace and Chelsea in mid-December before the Toffees host Leicester City ahead of Christmas.
