Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was always destined to fail this season after his summer transfer business, according to former England winger Trevor Sinclair. Solskjaer's United side suffered a humiliating 5-0 loss at home to rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

"If you look at him next to Manchester City's full-backs - [Joao] Cancelo, and Kyle Walker - come on. I think that was an area that they needed [to strengthen].
"Kieran Trippier was rumoured, I think the price was a little bit hefty but if you want to compete that was one position that they certainly needed, and the holding midfield role."
The holding midfielder Sinclair would have signed if he was in charge at United would have been Declan Rice.
Rice has earned rave reviews for his performances in an impressive West Ham side this season.
