Steve Bruce leaves position as Newcastle head coach
Gary Lineker believes Steve Bruce couldn’t have done any more to bring success to Newcastle United during his two years as manager of the club after his exit was confirmed. Bruce departed the Magpies on Wednesday morning, with the club’s new owners now on the lookout for a new boss.

“Steve Bruce has handled a difficult situation with great dignity during this period,” Lineker wrote on Twitter following news of the manager’s exit.
“Under trying circumstances and with generally poor recruitment by the club he did as well as realistically could be expected. Wish a very decent man all the very best.”
Lineker’s post was jumped on by a plethora of Newcastle fans, with many of them disagreeing with the Match of the Day presenter’s sentiments.
Bruce won just 29 of his 97 games in charge of Newcastle and averaged just over a point a game.

“I am grateful to everyone connected with Newcastle United for the opportunity to manage this unique football club,” Bruce said after departing St James’ Park.
“I would like to thank my coaching team, the players and the support staff in particular for all their hard work.
“There have been highs and lows, but they have given everything even in difficult moments and should be proud of their efforts.
“This is a club with incredible support, and I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be.
“I wish everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond.”
