Tottenham may have made a transfer mistake in letting cult hero Erik Lamela leave in the summer. The Argentine has insisted that he is only just hitting the peak of his powers just a few months after swapping the north Londoners for Sevilla.
Lamela surprisingly ended his eight-year spell at Spurs in the summer.
The 29-year-old was involved in a part-exchange transfer which saw Spain youngster Bryan Gil head in the opposite direction.
Lamela split opinion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Some fans and pundits felt that he should have contributed more from an attacking midfield position.
He scored 37 goals in 257 appearances for Spurs, although just 17 of those strikes came in the Premier League.
The midfielder was the victim of a big-spending summer window as Spurs sought to help new boss Nuno Espirito Santo settle in by adding new signings.

Chairman Daniel Levy sanctioned £60million worth of arrivals, with around £22m spent on Gil.
Lamela moved to Sevilla to replace Gil, and has revealed that he thinks he is in his ‘best moment’ in a blow to Spurs.
“I feel in the best moment of maturity. All these years have served me as an experience to grow as a player and a person,” Lamela told Spanish newspaper AS.
“I am at a time when I feel in this place, and I am excited. I am happy to be here and to take advantage to play football.”
Lamela’s admission can be evidenced by the fact that he has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Sevilla.

He has scored three times and provided two assists in La Liga.
Sevilla are fourth and are among the favourites to qualify for the Champions League. It is a slight contract to Spurs, who have had an indifferent start to the Premier League season under Nuno.
The North Londoners won each of their first three matches before suffering a trio of defeats. A victory over Aston Villa offered Nuno some respite.
