Amanda Staveley speaks to the media after confirmed Newcastle takeover
Newcastle United’s takeover has automatically propelled the club to the top of the rich list in Europe and, with a flurry of new signings expected in January, Mauro Icardi could be one of the first arrivals on Tyneside.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker is believed to be on the list of potential targets put together for Newcastle in the winter transfer window.
The £305million takeover deal was concluded on Thursday which saw the Saudi-based Public Investment Fund (PIF) take control of the club from Mike Ashley.
With their combined wealth, it is estimated the PIF are worth around £320bn — 10 times the wealth of the next richest club, Manchester City.
Director Amanda Staveley has already promised that there will be heavy investment to help the Magpies return to European football and challenge for honours.
And according to reports in Italy, PSG star Icardi could be one of their first targets to arrive at St James’ Park.

And with Messi’s arrival at Parc des Princes, the Argentina international has been tipped to head back to Serie A with Juventus.
Icardi made his name for Sampdoria before sealing a high-profile switch to Inter Milan, where he scored 124 goals in 219 appearances.
But he fell out of favour in Italy and joined PSG on loan in 2019, before making the move permanent last summer for £40m.
However, Icardi made only 20 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring seven goals, with Mbappe preferred in the central striking role alongside Neymar and Angel Di Maria.
