Manchester United confirm Cristiano Ronaldo return
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his squad they’re better than the players he won the treble alongside in 1999, reports say. The club enjoyed a positive summer transfer window. And the return of Cristiano Ronaldo was the icing on top of the cake.
Manchester United were swift and efficient with their transfer business this summer.
A deal for Tom Heaton was concluded with ease, with the veteran arriving to challenge David De Gea and Dean Henderson for a starting berth.
United then snapped up Jadon Sancho, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund four years after Jose Mourinho had first tried to secure his signature.
Raphael Varane was next, touching down from Real Madrid.
And United then confirmed the stunning return of Ronaldo on deadline day, with the veteran moving from Juventus 12 years after he’d initially left the club behind.

A club source is quoted as praising the deal for Varane, too, saying: “He’s settled in so well to the club and the squad — the other defenders already look up to him.
“What he’s done in his career is impossible to ignore. He has won a World Cup and four Champions Leagues.
“His quality and pace, added with experience, is something the other defenders know they can watch and learn from.
“He’s only played one game, but it feels more secure and confident with him around.”
And whether United’s new boys are able to fire them to title glory remains to be seen.

Ronaldo is thrilled to be back at the club, however, admitting he was excited about playing in front of their supporters again.
“Well, the fans is the key of football,” he said.
“Now, with all the stadiums full of supporters, it’s not the same that we had one year ago, those empty stadiums.
“The fans, they are the key, and I’m so glad. The Manchester United fans, they are special, I know, I remember very well.
“I know they still sing my music which has made me feel even more happy and my commitment is to give everything on the pitch, like I did before, like I do it all the time, and try to do my best, help the team score goals, make assists, win games, and I hope to see them very, very soon.”

On talks with Solskjaer, he added: “Well, we had a chat, but of course I’m going to have time to speak with him face to face, to know what he expects.
“As you know, I played with him for two or three years at Manchester United so I have a good relationship with him but now with a different role, I’m a player and he’s a coach.
“But it doesn’t matter, my relationship with him is great and as I say before, I’m there in Manchester to help the team achieve his results and the coach can count on me for whatever he wants.
