Varane trains with Man Utd squad after joining from Real Madrid
Manchester United remain in need of an elite holding midfield player and there is still a small chance once could arrive before August 31, pending player sales. Any move could effectively hinge on whether United bring enough money through the door and that is largely centred around the future of Jesse Lingard.
Adidas and Manchester United have launched their official 2021/22 home jersey, putting a modern twist on their classic club styles.
With Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane now over the line, United know they have a squad capable of challenging for every prize.
Yet if there was one small area of the squad that could be critiqued, it's the lack of quality from deep in midfield, with all due respect to Scott McTominay and Fred.
Nemanja Matic was the ideal lynchpin when he arrived from Chelsea but his powers have waned with age and now he needs replacing.
Should United land the right man, it would represent the perfect transfer window.
With that in mind, Express Sport looks at three names that would cap an excellent summer...

Ndidi is highly regarded in the United quarters and once again, is a player Red Devils supporters would love to see at Old Trafford.
It really is a mystery as to why there's been so little interest in the Nigerian in the past few years given the consistency of his performances with Leicester.
He has proven he can compete with the best of the best in the Premier League and at 24, his peak years are still ahead of him.
Ndidi is likely to cost more than Bissouma, particularly with Leicester selling to a fellow top-four rival in United.
Nonetheless, this would show nous as opposed to signing the big, obvious names while also being a stellar piece of business.

Eduardo Camavinga
Camavinga has just one year left on his contract with Rennes, making him a viable option for United to explore.
His agent Jonathan Barnett has already put his name in the shop window and with Paul Pogba's future up in the air, Camavinga could be the ideal replacement.
Nonetheless, he is not a defensive midfielder as such and is more a box-to-box player who can affect the game at both ends of the pitch.
Although he would represent a magnificent signing, he would still not tick all of the boxes United are looking for in a central midfielder at the moment.
