Another position United want to bolster is in midfield.
With Paul Pogba being linked with a move to PSG, and Donny van de Beek struggling to adjust to life in the Premier League, Solskjaer is eyeing more reinforcements.
And, at present, there are three names under consideration.
The first is Eduardo Camavinga, who has sparkled for Rennes over the past two years and, at 18, is a generational talent.
United have touched base with the player’s representatives but may miss out, with Camavinga preferring to join Real Madrid or PSG instead.
Another midfielder being eyed by United is Wolves star Ruben Neves.
The Portugal international has impressed in the Premier League over the past two years, establishing himself as a firm favourite at Molineux in the process.
With Wolves having to balance the books in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, however, they could be forced into selling in order to balance the books.
And that’s where United come in.
Bruno Fernandes would love to see Neves move to the club and United may keep their talisman happy by launching an official bid in the next couple of weeks.

Saul Niguez
The fourth and final player United are currently interested in is Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
He’s been on the Red Devils’ radar for a number of years and, with the La Liga giants open to selling, Solskjaer’s team could swoop in.
United think they can potentially sign Saul for £45million.
But any deal for that amount will likely have to be financed by selling players first, with several names being linked with moves away.
United would like to cut Phil Jones loose, while the likes of Dalot, Andreas Pereira, Alex Telles, Daniel James and Brandon Williams have been tipped to depart as well.

Solskjaer addresses signings so far
Before United hammered Everton 4-0 on Saturday, Solskjaer opened up on the club’s transfer business so far.
”We have built a playing squad with a good spread of ages," Solskjaer said in his programme notes. "Some really talented young lads, some very experienced senior professionals and some who are right in their prime.
"But what unites everyone, both the players and the staff, is the hunger and enthusiasm that we all have for success. We are all- ready to take that step on our journey and that requires constant evolution.
"We have already significantly strengthened our squad for the 2021-22 campaign with returning players and the signings of Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho, and the impending arrival of Raphael Varane will bring another new dimension to our collective approach."
