Can Varane turn Man Utd into title contenders?
Manchester United have named the conditions that will see Diogo Dalot complete his long-awaited move to AC Milan, with the Serie A club readying a fresh bid. Dalot is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans going forward and will be allowed to leave this summer.
The right-back has found it difficult to break past Aaron Wan-Bissaka and into United’s starting line-up since the Englishman arrived from Crystal Palace.
With no route into the side, Dalot was sent out on loan to Milan last summer, with the Portuguese international enjoying a relatively successful stay at the San Siro.
He was a regular in Stefano Pioli’s side as they finished as runners-up in Serie A, featuring at both right-back and left-back.
The 22-year-old was mainly utilised as a substitute in the Italian top-flight, but it was in the Europa League where he truly shone.
Dalot appeared in every game of the Rossinieri’s run to the last 16, where they eventually bowed out to United.

As it stands, Milan are the only team interested in offering Dalot an escape route, though his future still needs to be clarified according to Calciomercato.
The Italian news website reports that talks are ‘continuing’ between the Italian giants and United over a prospective deal.
Currently, a loan move is the most likely outcome, with United understood to be ‘ready’ to sanction such a move.
The Red Devils are said to have told Milan that if a deal is to happen, they must be paid a loan fee in the region of £2.5m.

The Premier League side are also understood to be keen to include an obligation to buy clause in the move, as they look to avoid letting Dalot leave with a small fee next summer.
Milan technical director Paolo Maldini, together with director of football Federic Massara, are now “reflecting” on those terms.
According to Calciomercato, they are looking to “prepare a new offer” which they hope to submit this week.
Dalot this week returned to United for pre-season training after he was handed an extended break following his exploits with Portugal at Euro 2020.
