Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Sporting Lisbon starlet Nuno Mendes after the Portuguese champions slashed their asking price for the left-back. Mendes is currently the focus of a transfer pursuit from several of Europe’s top clubs.
After breaking into Ruben Amorim’s side, Mendes became Sporting’ first-choice wingback on the left-hand side of what was usually a 3-4-3 formation.
The 19-year-old missed just five league matches as Sporting won their first Primeira Liga title for 19 years.
Though his attacking output can be viewed as being relatively poor having notched just one assist and scored one goal, he is still viewed as one of the best young left-backs in Europe.
Both Manchester United and Manchester City have been strongly linked, with the star’s agent recently flying out to England to weigh up their interest.

That includes Liverpool, with Andy Robertson an ever-present for Jurgen Klopp’s side and viewed as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
They do require a new back-up in the position though, with Kostas Tsimikas edging closer to a departure from Anfield.
Despite that apparent requirement, £42m would appear to be too high a price for a player who would most likely sit behind Robertson.
With a departure stalling, Record also state that Mendes’ agent Miguel Pinho will have a meeting with Sporting this week to discuss where his client’s future lies.
