Those four additions are likely to complete United's summer transfer business but if there's one surprise department where an upgrade is necessary, it's defensive midfield.
Ultimately, signing a top-class holding midfield - a player United have longed for - could prove a potential game-changer.
While there remains a lot of quality in United's ranks, their spine is not one of Premier League champions.

To their credit, Fred and Scott McTominay have come a long way under Solskjaer.
Yet still, the Brazilian continues to have his moments and in the centre of the park, there is little margin for error.
It can be where the game is won and lost and Fred and McTominay do not always give United control.
A cool-head with technical quality such as Declan Rice or Kalvin Phillips could quietly be United's best business of the summer.

Yes, Sancho, Trippier or Varane would certainly be a step in the right direction but United need something a little different in midfield.
Paul Pogba is no longer deemed a No 8 and instead plays most of his football from the left and if that's going to continue, another addition is required at the base of midfield.
Other options include Saul Niguez - although more of a box-to-box player - who is available for around £40million this summer.
Wilfred Ndidi, Yves Bissouma or Florian Neuhaus could also prove to be shrewd additions if United are brave enough to move away from their 'big name' transfer policy.
The Red Devils rarely shop smart and tend to target the more marketable, household names.
But if Solskjaer is willing to sign off the money for a defensive midfielder from his summer budget, it could prove to be one of the best decisions he's ever made in the United hot-seat...
