Premier League revelation shows Chelsea must avoid last year's transfer errors
The Blues were the biggest spenders in the Premier League last summer, but it failed to pay off with several of their recruits failing to live up to their hefty price tags.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic hitting many clubs hard last summer, Chelsea still invested heavily in the transfer market to recruit reinforcements for then-manager Frank Lampard’s squad. Werner was perhaps the biggest disappointment, scoring just six goals in the Premier League having consistently been one of the Bundesliga’s top scorers during his time with previous club RB Leipzig.
The struggles of those five means that Chelsea are once again set to be active participants in the summer transfer window.

That was the third-worst in the league, ahead of only Manchester United and Manchester United, who both paid more than £9m for each point they accumulated.
Chelsea have a long history of spending huge sums on players who could fail to have a good impact on the Premier League.
But it is an approach that appears to not be paying off, with the club finishing just one point more than last season despite their massive expenditure.
With budgets being lowered after a season of behind-closed-doors football, the Blues will need to avoid the mistakes of the past.
