Troy Deeney has tipped Manchester United to use a stopgap striker before attempting to sign Harry Kane or Erling Haaland. United have been linked with both forwards, with the position believed to be one of their priorities in the summer transfer window.
But Deeney, who is currently sidelined with injury with Watford on the verge of promotion to the Premier League, wants to see another man leading the line at Old Trafford next season.
Haaland is being chased by many of Europe’s top clubs after a spectacular season which has seen him score 33 goals in 34 games for Borussia Dortmund.
United are competing with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Barcelona for his signature, with the Norwegian set to leave Dortmund at the end of the season.
Kane meanwhile is reportedly considering demanding a departure from Tottenham after another season in which the club has struggled.

The England captain has scored 19 goals and notched 13 assists in the top flight so far this term, but with Spurs struggling to even make the Champions League spots, an exit is on the cards.
But rather than thinking that United will sign Kane or Haaland this summer, Deeney instead believes they should keep Edinson Cavani.
Cavani has scored seven goals in his first season at Old Trafford, including the strike that put United ahead against Spurs on Sunday.
But the Argentine is reportedly unhappy with life in England and has been linked with a move to Boca Juniors at the end of this season.

Deeney also played down United’s chances of signing Haaland, with Dortmund reportedly demanding a fee in the area of £150million for the striker.
Watford hitman Deeney believes that with Anthony Martial also in the squad, United will need to sell players before they attempt to make a move for Haaland.
“I don’t think they’re going to go out and get a Haaland,” Deeney said.
“He’s very expensive and Kane is very expensive and they’ve still got Martial there as well. Unless they could move one or two, I don’t see how they’re going to get a huge striker.”
