Premier League fixtures: Every January change after Aston Villa vs Everton gets postponed
The top-flight has been forced to reschedule fixtures during the rest of January after Covid-19 outbreaks at various clubs this month.
Should footballers be allowed to celebrate during COVID?
Just like everyone else in the country right now, Premier League footballers have had to contend with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This has made for a very strange season with numerous fixtures being called off due to Covid-19 outbreaks at clubs.
This means that a host of Premier League clashes have had to be rescheduled for a later date as players recover from the symptoms, or are forced to isolate after being in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.
Despite the players being tested on a regular basis in order to try and contain the virus, as well as other Covid-19 measures such as social distancing being in place, in recent months the virus has had an effect on numerous clubs across the top-flight.
Most recently, Aston Villa’s home clash against Everton on Sunday was postponed due to a Covid outbreak at the Midlands-based club.
The Villa training ground remains closed after nine players and five backroom staff tested positive for the virus, with the whole squad currently in isolation.
The Premier League granted Villa’s request to postpone the clash with Everton, otherwise they would have had to put out a very young and experienced side, like they fielded in last Friday’s 4-1 FA Cup third round defeat by Liverpool.
With the pandemic still going on and the country being in full lockdown, there still could be even more games postponed.
