Alisson injury: Liverpool dealt fresh blow as Reds ace misses Ajax Champions League clash
Alisson has been left out of Liverpool's crucial Champions League tie against Ajax this evening.
Liverpool: Alisson Becker impresses with touch during training
Liverpool have handed a surprise Champions League debut to Caoimhin Kelleher with Alisson unavailable due to injury. The Brazilian was absent from training earlier today, sparking fears of an injury.
And those fears have been confirmed this evening with Alisson left out of the squad to face Ajax altogether.
But Jurgen Klopp has opted to go with Kelleher as opposed to Adrian.
The Spaniard has stepped in on a regular basis since joining as a free agent in 2019.
However, Kelleher has been preferred to face Ajax with Liverpool needing a draw to secure their place in the knockout phase.
Alisson is said to be suffering from a tight leg muscle and now faces a race against time to be fit to face Wolves at the weekend.
The 28-year-old has already missed three games this season due to a shoulder injury.
And his presence was dearly missed in the league games in which he missed.
Liverpool conceded nine in games against Aston Villa and Everton back in October.
The Reds have only managed to keep two clean sheets all season long, but Klopp has had to utilise his squad depth particularly in defence due to injuries to big players.
Both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term absentees while Fabinho and Joel Matip have also had their injury issues.
The latter two are back to full fitness, although Matip was rested at the weekend against Brighton.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is also currently out, although Klopp recently hinted the right-back could soon be back available.
Jordan Henderson is also ready to make his first start since recovering from injury in a huge boost to Klopp.
The Liverpool boss opted to give Roberto Firmino a rest with Sadio Mane lining up alongside Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota up front.
Starting XI: Kelleher, N Williams, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones, Salah, Mane, Jota.
Subs: Adrian, Jaros, Firmino, Minamino, Tsimikas, Origi, R. Williams, Cain, Clarkson
