Everton edge step closer to fifth summer signing as Atletico Madrid confirm talks
Everton have started the season in fine form with two wins from two.
Everton has 'big ambitions for the future' says Carlo Ancelotti
Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Everton are one of three clubs currently in talks to sign Santiago Arias. The Toffees have enjoyed an impressive start to the Premier League season having picked up six points from their opening two games.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has picked up all the headlines with four goals, including a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over West Brom at the weekend.
But it's also been an impressive start for Carlo Ancelotti's summer signings.
Allan has added some much-needed toughness to Everton's midfield, sweeping up in front of the defence.
Abdoulaye Doucoure has similarly look good in the centre of midfield.

And James Roddriguez is already off the mark with a brilliant goal in the win over West Brom.
However, Ancelotti is eager to bolster his defensive options in the final few weeks of the transfer window.
Everton are short of options at right-back with it unclear whether Jonjoe Kenny will be able to replace the ageing Seamus Coleman.
Ancelotti also only has two fit senior centre-backs with Mason Holgate out injured for up to three months.

But it appears as though Everton are at least making plans to bolster their options on the right side of defence.
Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta has confirmed Everton are currently negotiating over a deal to sign Colombia international Arias.
However, they face strong competition from other clubs around Europe.
“We’re talking to Roma, Everton and PSG," he told Kicker.
Arias is surplus to requirements at Atletico with both Kieran Trippier and Sime Vrsaljko ahead of him in the pecking order.
Both PSG and Roma though have two senior right-backs already, suggesting Everton may have an advantage in discussions to sign Arias while Kenny's future remains uncertain.
Rodriguez may also be key in Everton striking a deal for the 28-year-old as the duo play alongside each other for the Colombia national team.
