Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp defends the club's transfer activity
Liverpool need to strengthen their squad with readymade players - like how Chelsea have with Thiago Silva - according to former England right-back Danny Mills. Former Paris Saint-Germain captain Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer this summer following the expiry of his contract at the Parc des Princes. The centre-back turns 36 later this month and is by far the oldest of Frank Lampard's six signings this summer.
Liverpool have so far only brought in left-back Kostas Tsimikas in this window for just under £12million.
They are heavily linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara but the £27m asking price for a 29-year-old is putting the Reds off.
But Mills says sometimes it is vital to add players "for the now", rather than looking at the long-term future.
While speaking about Liverpool's transfer business, Mills told Stadium Astro: "Sometimes you have to buy players for the now. You cannot just keep stockpiling for the future.

"They have just been off the charts with it and I don't see it changing.
"What I would have liked to have happened, I would like them to have freshened it up, got a few faces in.
"When you're the current world champions, Premier League champions and until recently the European champions, you'd like to think the easy part would be attracting top players. I'm sure they've got the money."
"But I think on the other side of the coin it must mean that the manager, Jurgen, knows what he's got coming out of the youth development squad and he must feel that these people coming in can do a job for him."
