Kylian Mbappe has left the French national team camp after testing positive for coronavirus.
Champions League: Pundit defends Mbappe’s performance
Kylian Mbappe has become the latest high-profile footballer to test positive for coronavirus, according to reports in France. Mbappe has been on international duty with France, scoring the winner in the 1-0 win over Sweden on Saturday.
He was expected to feature again on Tuesday night against Croatia.
But Telefoot report Mbappe has left the French national team camp after returning a positive coronavirus test.
While the news will come as a blow to France's hopes against Croatia, it may come as an even bigger setback for Paris Saint-Germain.
Their set to get their Ligue 1 campaign underway on Thursday with PSG facing Lens.
Mbappe may have been rested for the season opener due to his involvement with the French national side.
But now Thomas Tuchel will not have Mbappe available for their two opening fixtures.
Mbappe missing the game against Lens may not be a huge disappointment for the PSG boss.
However, the Ligue 1 champions face a tough second game of the season against Marseille and they will have to do without Mbappe.
The news comes just a week after PSG announced three other players had tested positive for COVID-19.
Reports in France stated Neymar was among those along with Argentinian duo Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes.
"Three Paris Saint-Germain players have confirmed positive Sars CoV2 tests and are subject to the appropriate health protocol," PSG said in a statement.
"All of the players and coaching staff will continue to undergo tests in the coming days."
