Kai Havertz: Frank Lampard 'desperate' to sign player says expert
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia will sell at least one midfielder if and when the Blues complete a deal to sign Kai Havertz, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry. Chelsea have reportedly agreed a £72million deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Germany international Havertz. The attacking midfielder would be the third signing for Frank Lampard following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
Chelsea already have a plethora of attacking options, especially from wide positions.
Havertz has played as a false No 9 at times for Leverkusen but McGarry says it will be a midfielder who will make way in the Chelsea squad for the 21-year-old.
"Chelsea are confident that should they recruit Havertz that they have enough interest in other midfielders currently at the club that they will be able to sell," McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast.
"So it will be a case of at least one out and one in, which will make that Marina [Granovskaia] abacus look a lot better with regards to the numbers when the financial results are published."
"The club believe they have come quite close to agreeing a deal with the player and his representatives regarding a contract," McGarry added.
"Interestingly it's a contract that would work out way below the figures Chelsea normally pay for a player of his quality in terms of salary and contract.

"The player is currently believed to earn around €15,000 per-week, but Chelsea are offering him a much more generous offer of around €60,000.
"Again, that would be way below the £150,000 to £200,000 that their top earners currently earn.
"Therefore, if they can convince Leverkusen to come down on the fee, [Leverkusen are] currently asking for around £90m, they would get something of a bargain.
"Looking at the recruitment of Timo Werner for around €60m, if it were around that figure then you'd say Chelsea have managed to secure a very, very talented player for a good price.

"And also, they'd get him for a contract fee that would be reasonable in the current climate."
