Neal Maupay clashed with Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi at the final whistle after a heated match on the south coast. Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Brighton after a turnaround from the hosts.
"I apologised to their team and to him as well. I've been through a bad injury so I know that it's hard but I never meant to hurt him but some of the Arsenal players need some humility sometimes.
"They were talking a lot first half, second half when they were 1-0 up and they got what they deserved.
"Until the keeper gets the ball you never know what could happen. So I just went to get the ball really.
"I think it was shoulder against shoulder and when he landed he twisted his knee.
"That is football, there is contact and I never meant to injure him.
"So I'm really sorry for him, I apologise again and I wish him a speedy recovery."

Arsenal: Pablo Mari says he wants to be at club ‘for many years’
Maupay's goal had followed Nicoals Pepe's stunning opener and Lewis Dunk's equaliser in another blow for Arsenal's European hopes following the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday.
Brighton however were given a huge boost in their battle against relegation.
Brighton boss Graham Potter said: "It is a massive goal for Neal and reward for his working tirelessly for the team. It was a nice goal in the end and worthy to win a game of football."
Arteta was angry with his side’s performance and said: “A very difficult one to take. It is unacceptable in the way we lost the game.
“The fact we missed so many chances, the fact we gave them a goal and we did not compete for the second goal."
