Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ‘tremendous’ says pundit
Dominic Calvert-Lewin wasn’t sure whether his disallowed goal would stand when he was on the pitch but after seeing a replay when he left the field the Everton striker was clearly gobsmacked. Manchester United and Everton had played out a tight affair at Goodison Park.
Bruno Fernandes had levelled the game in the first half after Calvert-Lewin pounced on a David de Gea error in the first half.
The game looked as though it was destined to finish 1-1 when Jordan Pickford pulled off a tremendous double save to deny Fernandes and then scampering across to stop Odion Ighalo’s effort.
But there was still time for one more scramble in United’s box when Gylfi Sigurdsson saw his effort expertly saved by De Gea.
The rebound fell to Calvert-Lewin though and his effort took a big deflection off Harry Maguire, wrong-footing the United goalkeeper and trickling into the bottom corner.

The Everton players immediately rushed off to celebrate but the United stars were incensed as they felt Sigurdsson was seated in an offside position, obstructing De Gea’s view.
The official indicated VAR were taking a look at the incident and the goal was quickly ruled out to the heartache of Everton fans and players.
Carlo Ancelotti was clearly furious with the decision after the game as he went to confront the referee which resulted in the Everton boss being shown a red card.
Calvert-Lewin then got a chance to see a replay of his disallowed goal before conducting an interview with Sky Sports and he was similarly shocked that it didn’t stand.
