Liverpool squad ‘forbidden’ from discussing Premier League title glory
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has explained the dressing room mood about discussing the Premier League title.
Liverpool: Henderson says discussing title is ‘forbidden’
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has revealed the squad are “forbidden” from discussing the Premier League title. The Reds have built a 25-point lead at the top of the table and look set to end their 30-year wait to be crowned champions of English football.
While the title race looks like a foregone conclusion, the Liverpool players and staff are not getting carried away.
When asked if they are talking about the title, he told Sport: “It is a forbidden word for now.
“I’ve been in football long enough to know that nothing is impossible.”
The Champions League is top of the agenda for Liverpool at this moment, however.
Jurgen Klopp’s men continue the defence of their European crown with a two-legged last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid.
The first leg takes place in the Spanish capital club tonight, which means returning to the Wanda Metropolitano for the first time since beating Tottenham in the competition’s final last year.
When asked to share his select memories from that night, Henderson said: “There are many. I think the final whistle, the end and knowing that we had done it, that it was over.
“Obviously, sharing the moment with my dad was a great time for me personally, to lift the trophy.”
Despite conquering the rest of Europe last year, Liverpool fell agonisingly short in the Premier League title race with Manchester City.
Henderson admits the drive to achieve more surfaced after winning the Champions League.
“Finally we achieved the great trophy,” he said. “And then, once you've celebrated, celebrated and enjoyed, you still felt, as a team, that it wasn't the end.
“I am 29 years old and I continue to learn every day. In football you can always improve, no matter how old you are.”
