Arsenal rejected Dries Mertens
Arsenal rejected the chance to sign Chelsea transfer target Dries Mertens because of age concerns.
The Times claimed Mikel Arteta turned down the 32-year-old Napoli forward at the start of the January transfer window.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is desperate to add a striker to his ranks with Mertens his top target.
Napoli rejected a £5m offer for the Belgian who is out of contract in the summer.
Late move for Dries Mertens
Chelsea will make a late bid for Napoli forward Dries Mertens as Frank Lampard looks for another striker.
The Telegraph claim the Serie A side do not want to sell and have already rebuffed the Blues’ first approach for the player.
Chelsea will not let Olivier Giroud leave the club unless they sign a striker with Mertens their top target.
Inter Milan, Tottenham and Lazio all want the France forward on loan until the end of the season.
Frank Lampard wants Edinson Cavani
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has urged his board to complete a transfer for Edinson Cavani before the 11pm deadline on Friday.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward’s move to Atletico Madrid has collapsed over a difference in valuation of the player with the French champions.
Cavani is out of contract in the summer but PSG are thought to be demanding £15million, according to the Daily Star.
The 32-year-old is on over £300,000-a-week at PSG and is not prepared to take a big pay cut to get a move elsewhere.
It would be difficult for Chelsea to complete a deal with Tottenham already dropping out of the race.
Olivier Giroud latest
Olivier Giroud has agreed to personal terms with three teams ahead of a possible deadline day move.
Inter Milan, Tottenham and Lazio all have a deal in place with Chelsea for a loan and an option to buy come the summer, according to ESPN.
Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge with Tammy Abraham leading the line for Frank Lampard.
The striker is desperate for more playing time ahead of Euro 2020 in the summer.
Chelsea frustration
Frank Lampard has been left frustrated by Chelsea’s lack of activity in the January transfer window.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims the Blues boss wanted three signings going into this month.
Solhekol said: “Frank Lampard is a bit frustrated - when Chelsea's transfer ban was lifted he was expecting to be backed with money, their budget was supposed to be £150m and with a couple of days to go they still haven't signed anyone.
“Lampard wanted a new left-back, a back-up striker for Tammy Abraham and a replacement for Hazard, but didn't get any.”
Chelsea were also tipped to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this month ahead of Manchester United.
The England international, 19, has netted 14 goals and chipped in with 13 assists in all competitions this time out.
However, Solhekol says the Blues won’t sign Sancho until the summer if they decide to make a move for the forward.
He added: “They'll have to wait until the summer to try and sign Jadon Sancho, who is a Chelsea fan.
“What's going to happen with Willian? He's over 30, and he might leave in the summer.
“Pedro might be on his way out of the club as well, his contract is up in June - there has been interest from Roma in the past few days - and same thing with Olivier Giroud.”
