Newcastle United have opened talks with Arsenal to sign striker Alfie Matthews, claims Football Insider.
The 18-year-old is reportedly out of contract at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.
Newcastle aim to seal a deal for Matthews this month, and they’re ready to make a bid.
Matthews is a key figure in Arsenal’s Under-18 squad, scoring two goals in 10 appearances.

Loans likely
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol believes Arsenal will only make a permanent signing this month if they can get a cut-price deal near the end of the window.
“Well I think they need a centre-back but they don’t have much money,” Solhekol said.
“They spent almost £140m last summer and I think if they are going to get somebody in, it will be someone on loan or somebody right at the end of the window when you can get a better deal.”
It appears to be a similar situation to last January…

Thomas Lemar offer
Arsenal have reportedly made an approach for Atletico Madrid star Thomas Lemar.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lemar for a number of years, and they were close to signing the forward in 2018.
But, the deal fell through, and the 24-year-old moved from Monaco to Atletico six months later.
But Arsenal are still interested and AS claim the club have made a bid for the left winger.

Tottenham battle with Ake
Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.
Ake has been a mainstay in Eddie Howe’s backline over the past two seasons and has attracted interest from some of England’s biggest clubs.
Manchester City are also known to be considering a move for Ake, but The Athletic claim both north London clubs are lurking.

Mikel Arteta issue
The Gunners boss has admitted that his side can not keep relying on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the striker now suspended for three matches.
“That is the challenge,” Arteta said.
“We can’t put on someone’s shoulders the possibility to score that many goals, but the reality is in the last few years that has been the case and we need to modify that.”
Only Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has more Premier League goals than Aubameyang this season with his 17 comparing to the Arsenal star’s 14.
