Manchester United’s path to Bruno Fernandes is far from clear with Tottenham also in the picture. But the promise of a starring role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rebuild could be enough for the Red Devils to win their transfer battle with their Premier League rivals.
Manchester United have suffered an alarming fall from grace in recent years, well before Solskjaer took the job permanently back in March.
They continue to take one step forward and two back - despite their insistence that progress is being made.
United aren’t the attractive force they once were and, with Tottenham pushing them over Fernandes, there are fears among supporters they they miss out.
But they shouldn’t panic.
United can beat Tottenham to his signature by promising him a starring role at the biggest club in the world.
While their stock has fallen, they’re still Manchester United. Just the very name has significant weight within the footballing community.

They believe they’re making progress behind the scenes, even though their poor Premier League form this season suggests otherwise.
And United still have some pulling power, despite their attractiveness lessening in recent years.
Back in the summer, they successfully snared Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.
Both players were on the radar of Manchester City, who had finished top of the league last season and have Pep Guardiola, the best coach on the planet, in charge.
But they ended up moving to United instead.
Maguire was initially looking to join City, believing the prospect of working under Guardiola at the Etihad too tough to turn down.
