Three ideal January signings for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta plots squad revamp
Arsenal are on the hunt for reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Arsenal: Nicol discusses potential move for Jerome Boateng
It’s no secret that Arsenal need to bring in new faces in the January transfer window. The Gunners have endured a torrid campaign so far, which has left them toiling in tenth place in the Premier League table and seven points off the relegation zone.
The Arsenal board have already made overtures to resurrect their dire season, relieving Unai Emery of his duties as manager and appointing Mikel Arteta as his successor.
But appointing a new manager is only half the battle; the board needs to delve their hands deep into their pockets and invest in the squad.
Arteta, like many others, is fully aware his squad needs new faces to shake up things and boost their slim chances of a top-four finish. The Spaniard is currently eyeing defensive reinforcements following Callum Chambers’ season-ending knee injury.
However, he’d also be well-placed signing a new attacking midfielder and a striker. Below are the three players he should considering bringing in this month.

Jerome Boateng
Although he’s now in his thirties, the addition of Jerome Boateng would provide Arsenal some much-needed experience in their back four.
A ball-playing centre-back who isn’t afraid to stick his foot in, the Germany international would make the perfect short-term fix for Arsenal’s defensive problems.
And with Bayern Munich reportedly willing to let him leave the Allianz Arena for free, Arteta would be foolish to not explore the option of bringing the out-of-favour 31-year-old - who has only made 17 appearances this season - to the Emirates.

Arsenal have two transfer alternatives to Upamecano and Boateng
Hakim Ziyech
One of Ajax’s prized assets, Hakim Ziyech would make the perfect acquisition for Arsenal. The Moroccan showcased his immense potential in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
Ziyech, 26, has continued to showcase his niftiness and eye for a pass this campaign, proving his standout season was no fluke.
Despite Mesut Ozil seemingly returning to form, Arsenal are still in dire need of creative-minded players. So pursuing Zieych, who Ajax are reportedly willing to let leave Amsterdam for £42.5million, should be one of Arteta’s main priorities.
Raul Jimenez
To say Raul Jimenez has shone since joining Wolves would be a major understatement. The Mexico international has scored 34 goals and provided 16 assists in 76 appearances for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
In his season-and-a-half in the Premier League, the former Atletico Madrid man has shown he’s the full package when it comes to strikers. Jimenez’s power, skill and ability to read the game - coupled with his clinical finishing - has made him one of the standout hitmen in the league.
Arsenal currently find themselves in a position where they could soon be devoid of their top goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is said to be eyeing a move to a Champions League alternative.
So they should preempt his potential exit by acquiring the services of Jimenez, who would provide a different dimension to the team as well as a glut of goals.
