Manchester United are ‘interested’ in Maddison says pundit
Manchester United have Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz as an alternative transfer target to Leicester and Tottenham players James Maddison and Christian Eriksen, it has been claimed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to sign a creative player this month.
Manchester United are lacking when it comes to creativity in the middle of the park - with the club’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on New Year’s Day showing that.
The Red Devils were dreadful at the Emirates and looked out of ideas, with Jesse Lingard particularly abysmal at No 10.
Solskjaer likes Lingard and also respects Juan Mata but has recognised the need for more reinforcements in that position.
United have been tipped to land Maddison or Eriksen from Leicester and Tottenham respectively with the transfer window now open.
Yet The Athletic say the Red Devils are also weighing up a move for Leverkusen star Havertz.
Last season, the 20-year-old was nothing short of sensational.

Speaking recently, the Germany international addressed talk of a possible transfer away.
He said: "To be honest, I have zero interest in that at the moment, because there are simply too many important matches to play.
"Like I've often said, I'll take care of it if the opportunity arises."
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has admitted that United are looking at signing "one or two" players this month.
"You can see the squad and sometimes you think, yeah, one or two additions would do nicely because we are building towards something," he said.

"It just depends on if what we think will be right for us will be available.
“Of course it's playing on our decision-making when we've got two players out for a bit, Scott [McTominay] for two months and Paul [Pogba] for a month.
"That gives us less options and we have loads of games and important games.
"But it still has to be right and that's the big point here, if someone is available and something is possible we'll do it.
