Chelsea: Lampard says he wants 'top calibre' players at club
Chelsea are only in the market for players of a “top calibre” as Frank Lampard looks to improve his squad in the January transfer window. The Blues had their two-window transfer ban halved by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week meaning they can sign new players in the winter window.
But Lampard insists he does not want to bring players to Stamford Bridge for the sake of it.
“We want a top calibre of player to improve us,” he said before Bournemouth’s visit on Saturday. “I am happy with the squad, [but] we have to look if we can.
“It is a joint effort; scouting, board, I will recommend players. I want players to come in who want to be a Chelsea player.”
Lampard has cultivated a young side rich in academy graduates this season but there are still areas for improvement.

Only seven sides have conceded more Premier League goals than Chelsea this term and Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake has been linked with a return to west London.
The Dutchman was schooled at Chelsea from 2011 to 2017 before the Cherries purchased him for £20million in June 2017.
Chelsea reportedly installed a £40m buy-back clause into the 24-year-old’s contract, however.
Eddie Howe said earlier this week that “things are out of our control” when it comes to Ake’s future and Lampard also fielded questions about the player.
