Chelsea boss Frank Lampard would improve his squad with the purchase of a new left-back and striker, according to former Blues midfielder Craig Burley. Chelsea are now able to sign players in January after FIFA cut their transfer ban in half last week. Burley does not think it is essential that his former club splash the cash now that they have the ability to do so.

But he says he will look to strengthen his squad if the opportunity arises.
“I think you’ve got to be careful about being too reactionary – ban lifted and defeat to Everton – it’s quite easy to come to that conclusion,” Lampard said.
“Just as much as people at the start of the season who were saying ‘We’ve got all these young boys, this is going to be no problem, we don’t need any players’.
“I think at a club like Chelsea there needs to be a balance.
