Arsenal next manager: Nuno Espirito Santo backed to be new boss after Unai Emery sack
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is among a host of names being linked with the Arsenal job.
Arsenal fan calls for Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Emery
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is the perfect man to instigate a turnaround at Arsenal. Spanish coach Unai Emery was sacked by Arsenal on Friday after a dismal run of form. Club hero Freddie Ljungberg was installed as the interim head coach following Emery’s departure but couldn’t inspire his players to victory against Norwich on Sunday.
Wolves are above Arsenal in the Premier League table and are through to the Europa League knockout stages.
Nuno brought Wolves up from the Championship and they finished last season in seventh-place, their highest finish in the top flight since 1979/80.
Arsenal are in desperate need of an inspirational figure to revitalise their fortunes after a sharp decline in quality.
And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, pundit Andy Townsend said Nuno is the right man above the other names linked.
He said: “He’s the one I think would be perfect for Arsenal. I personally think Nuno would be great for Arsenal, I really do.
“When I see the job Nuno has done at Wolves, getting them promoted, making them a seriously good team to watch.
“He’s spent a lot of money, with the Mendes links that they have they will always be in and around good players.
“But I like the way he sets his team up and the way that he plays. He has improved Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady, good, honest players.
“They have become very good Premier League players. He has taken them on another level.
“He looks to me that sort of coach who really wants to get into a player’s head, turn them around and work with them. And some of the Arsenal boys need that.”
Nuno is a hugely popular figure at the Molineux and star striker Raul Jimenez has called on the Portuguese coach to continue the good work done.
“Nuno's a very good manager. We all know that," he said.
"We're making good things, since last season when we got into the Premier League.
"And before, when I was not here, they were champions of the Championship.
"We're working good, working hard. There is speculation, but we're going to keep working to be the team that we want to be, making him better and us better.
"He's very important for us, every time he speaks with us it's very important.
"He knows a lot, so he is very important for the team."
