Man City team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Liverpool – Ederson injury latest
Manchester City are expected to be without Ederson and a number of other first-team players when they face Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon (4.30pm).
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out goalkeeper Ederson from this weekend’s clash with Liverpool, although reports suggest the Brazilian could still feature.
Ederson was forced off injured during the 1-1 with Atalanta in midweek and is not expected to play at Anfield.
Chilean stopper Claudio Bravo should take Ederson’s place between the posts, although Guardiola does not think this will harm City’s chances as they look to close the six-pint gap at the top of the table.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola said: ”[Ederson] is not able to play. On Sunday he cannot play.
"We have another top keeper - Claudio Bravo can do it too. We won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup thanks to Claudio.
"I see him every day in training. We won’t lose from Claudio. You have to respect him.
"He won the Copa America, respect that guy, he’s an incredible goalkeeper."
Ederson is not the only first-team star on the sidelines with David Silva, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Rodri also injured.
The quartet join long-term absentees Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte on the treatment table, meaning City are short on options this weekend.
Joao Cancelo could be preferred to Kyle Walker at right-back, despite the latter only making a cameo appearance in goal on Wednesday following Bravo’s red card.
Fernandinho is expected to partner John Stones in central defence while Benjamin Mendy will get the nod over Angelino at left-back.
Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne are most likely to start in midfield while Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling should provide support to Sergio Aguero if the Argentine striker is selected over Gabriel Jesus.
