The 27-year-old told his Spanish manager that he didn’t want to be named in the squad to take on Leicester at the King Power on Sunday, despite impressing Emery in training.
“It’s a nice place to live,” Bent added of the North East, having played for Sunderland between 2009 and 2011.
“One thing I found when I went there, when you’re up there you can only concentrate on football and for me that was a big thing.
“If I was him, I would do that, get a million miles away from anything.

“The Newcastle fans will back him, the Newcastle fans will get behind him, make him feel [welcome].
“If he puts in performances, he will think that is the best decision he ever made, leaving Arsenal and joining Newcastle.
“If he goes there, does the business and does really well, they won’t have to pay that much for him.
“I reckon they’d have to pay between £8-10million to get him.”

Emery made his stance of the future of Xhaka clear before the trip to face Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes, but remained uncertain over the midfielder's next step.
"He said to me that he's not feeling good enough to play," said Emery.
"I spoke with him on Tuesday about how he's feeling and how he is in his mind. He's working well, he's training well.
"I need to be focused with the players we have, and then after the international break I am going to speak again with him."
