Liverpool team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Tottenham – Klopp gives injury updates
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is waiting on the fitness of Joel Matip but should have Trent Alexander-Arnold back when the Reds face Tottenham at Anfield this afternoon (4.30pm).
Liverpool are set to welcome Trent Alexander-Arnold back to the starting XI this weekend, with the right-back having sat out the midweek win over Genk due to illness.
Andrew Robertson also has a clean bill of health, having been substituted early in the Champions League clash.
But the Reds are still sweating on the fitness of Joel Matip after a knee problem ruled the Cameroon defender out of the 4-1 victory.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp said: “Yeah, we just rested Robbo.
“We thought that’s enough for today [against Genk], 60 minutes. He could do it and did it. He is fine.
“Trent is fine. Or looked fine, if there is no setback. He was ill – ill enough to not travel with us, which is not a good sign, but yesterday he had a clearing session and if it is as it was yesterday then he should be fine.
“With Joel, we have to see. I didn’t see him yet. I don’t know 100 per cent,”
Meanwhile, Xherdan Shaqiri is closing in on a return but is still short of match fitness while Nathaniel Clyne remains sidelined.
“I saw Shaq this morning and spoke to him. It will take a little bit of time still. Big muscles, unfortunately, it needs a little bit longer to heal,” said Klopp.
Dejan Lovren or Joe Gomez will deputise for Matip alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence while James Milner will drop out for the returning Alexander-Arnold.
Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum are expected to replace Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield, despite the latter’s brace against Genk.
Mohamed Salah returned from injury in midweek and should start once more, partnering Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in attack.
