Celtic player ratings vs Lazio: Christie and Jullien the star men as Brown shines in win
Celtic fought back from a goal down to earn a vital Europa League win over Lazio at Parkhead, but which of Neil Lennon's men impressed most?
Celtic moved top of Group E with an excellent fight-back against Lazio, coming from a goal down to secure three points thanks to goals from Ryan Christie and Christopher Jullien.
Manuel Lazzari opened the scoring with a fierce effort just before half-time, firing past Fraser Forster at the near post following Joaquin Correa’s pass.
However, Christie swept home Odsonne Edouard’s pull-back to level before the midfielder’s corner found Jullien with just a minute remaining to steal victory.
Express Sport have rated how the Celtic players performed against Lazio, but do you agree?
Celtic player ratings vs Lazio – Europa League
GK: Fraser Forster – 7
Poor distribution and shaky handling but made up for it with a big stop to deny Marco Parolo from point-blank range.
Then tipped Danilo Cataldi’s drive around the post to preserve the points.
RB: Hatem Abd Elhamed – 7
Enjoyed an excellent start to the game with some robust defending and plenty of attacking endeavour.
Fired in a couple of dangerous balls as he got forward at every opportunity and was superb defensively.
CB: Christopher Jullien – 8
A titanic performance in central defence, oozing class as he dealt with a fleet-footed attack.
Was then in the right place to rise highest and plant a thumping header beyond Thomas Strakosha.
CB: Kristoffer Ajer – 6
Had more trouble shackling the visitors but just about kept his head above water, making a couple of vital clearances as Celtic manned the barricades.
LB: Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo – 6
Always keen to maraud forward but was exploited defensively at times.
CM: Scott Brown – 7
Led by example in a congested midfield, keeping his cool after being on the receiving end of some robust challenges.
CM: Callum McGregor – 6
Saw plenty of the ball but nothing really came off for the playmaker as he was crowded out in dangerous areas.
RAM: James Forrest – 6
Looked dangerous with the ball at his feet but occasionally made the wrong choice in the final third.
CAM: Ryan Christie – 8
The star man, hauling Celtic back into the match with a wonderful individual performance.
Hit the post with a first-half drive before a great finish got the Hoops level, and it was his delivery for the winner.
LAM: Mohamed Elyounoussi – 5
In excellent form after two goals at the weekend but struggled to find his rhythm here and was booked before being substituted.
ST: Odsonne Edouard – 7
Led the line manfully and provided a necessary focal point for Lennon’s side, without really getting a clear sight of goal.
SUB: Tomas Rogic (on for Elyounoussi, 65 mins) – 7
SUB: Nir Bitton (on for Elhamed, 83 mins) – N/A
SUB: Jonny Hayes (on for Bolingoli-Mbombo, 84 mins) – N/A
