Euro 2020: Ronaldo praised by pundit after scoring 700th goal
Cristiano Ronaldo reached a landmark goal with his strike in Portugal’s Euro 2020 qualifier at Ukraine.
The Portuguese side lost the match 2-1 but Ronaldo’s penalty took him to 700 career goals.
"Not just anyone can reach this figure," the Juventus star said after the game.
"Thank you to my team-mates, colleagues and coaches who have helped me to become the player I am.
"I am disappointed that we didn't win, but proud of the team."
The strike also moved Ronaldo to seven goals in the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
That puts him at No 5 on the top scorers' list, level with Aleksandar Mitrovic of Serbia and Finland’s Teemu Pukki.
Just ahead are England duo Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.
Manchester City forward Sterling has been directly involved in 13 goals in Euro 2020 qualifying, while Tottenham’s Kane has contributed directly to 15 goals in his last 10 games for England in all competitions.
