Robin van Persie tears into ‘boring’ Man Utd and explains what he does not like
Manchester United lost for the third time this season in the Premier League on Sunday.
Robin van Persie has labelled his former side Manchester United “boring” and has criticised them for a lack of effort.
Van Persie was speaking following United’s 1-0 Premier League loss to Newcastle on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 12th in the table, having won just two of the first eight games of the season.
Van Persie can understand if the Red Devils are struggling for confidence and form.
You have to put the effort in, you have to make the runs, you have to have a go
However, he says there is no excuse for a lack of effort.
“To be fair it was a bit boring to watch,” the Dutchman told Premier League Productions.
“Predictable, not much going on and that is something that I don’t like to see really because even though you are low in confidence, even though you are not playing your best football, it can happen, but you have to put the effort in, you have to make the runs, you have to have a go.
“Try your luck, maybe the ball bounces well for you. They didn’t really do that enough.”
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves admits Newcastle were worthy winners at St James’ Park.
However, he says that should not be the case with the players that were on show for either side.
“This game sums it up, exactly where they are,” Hargreaves said of United.
“A Newcastle team struggling to score goals, struggling with confidence and performances, they deserved to win this game.
“They were the better team, somehow. Man United have better players, they should win this game.
“Before the game [Newcastle] were second from bottom and they come away from a game like this, with Manchester United, deserved winners. It shouldn’t happen.”
United’s task does not get easier after the international break, as they welcome league-leaders Liverpool to Old Trafford on October 20.
