Man Utd told why they must not sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite ‘huge concern’
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure following Manchester United’s poor start to the season.
Manchester United must not sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yet, according to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy.
United have had their worst start to a league season since 1989.
Solskjaer’s side are 12th in the Premier League table, winning just two of their first eight games of the campaign.
United have failed to score more than one goal in a game since the 4-0 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford on the opening day.
I don’t think getting rid of Solskjaer right now is the right thing personally
But Murphy does not think all blame should be at the door of Solskjaer.
He says the recruitment at Manchester United in recent years has clearly not been good enough and reckons the Norwegian deserves more of a chance to prove he is the right man for the job.
However, Murphy admits Solskjaer needs several top players back from injury to do that.
“It’s a huge concern that the squad after three, four years now of spending millions, hundreds of millions, is so weak,” Murphy said on talkSPORT.
“I don’t think getting rid of Solskjaer right now is the right thing personally.
“Whether he’s capable or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
“But the problem is, if you change again now and you start again, new ideas, players trying to get on board with it, and actually you can only work with the tools you’ve got.
“Can United’s fully-fit squad with everyone firing compete with City and Liverpool? No.
“So you might as well leave him in charge at the moment and just give him a bit of time to see when everyone’s fit if he can get them going.
“But it is a real transitional period for United, they’re in big trouble because the quality, when you go past their first XI, isn’t great.
“And ultimately, that’s down to recruitment, not Solskjaer, over years.”
