Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t expect Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard to play against Newcastle.
Man Utd: Solskjaer 'I'm ready to see these boys blossom'
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t sure Jesse Lingard will play against Newcastle on Sunday.
Lingard came on from the bench on Thursday during United’s drab 0-0 draw at AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.
However, Solskjaer claims the England international tweaked his hamstring but hopes the injury is not too grave.
The Norwegian manager is not confident that he will have the winger available for the Premier League match with Newcastle.
Probably not Newcastle, but he should be ready for Liverpool
But the club legend believes the 26-year-old will be fit enough for the derby against Liverpool on October 20 at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer said: “He tweaked his hamstring so he didn’t feel like he could risk it, but hopefully it’s not too bad.
“Probably not Newcastle, but he should be ready for Liverpool.”
Solskjaer also confirmed he will be without star midfielder Paul Pogba for the match against Newcastle.
The 46-year-old will prefer to take advantage of the upcoming international break and help him regain fitness at a steadier pace.
He said when asked about Pogba: “Probably not, let's see on Saturday morning, probably not.
"There's an international break as well and that might be a time for us to give them 10-14 days extra to be ready for Liverpool."
United have gone 10 straight away matches without a win following the dire encounter with Alkmaar in the Netherlands.
Man Utd ex-coach reveals he told Lingard to be like Iniesta
Solskjaer understands that the Red Devils will have to work hard to restore their old prestige from Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.
He added: “We are not in the 1990s now.
“It’s a different era, a different group that we are building.
“We know there are going to be ups and downs but I’m ready to see these boys blossom.
“There’s not many clubs of our stature that play the young players that we do.
“We give them a chance to come through and I’m sure some of them will go on to be part of a successful team.”
